“You will never feel truly satisfied by work until you are satisfied by life.”
Balance is not something you find, it's something you create, and I have found a work-life balance that works for me, and importantly that works for my customers, colleagues, friends and family. And this is one of the values I pursue, for those who feel satisfied with their personal lives are more in tune with their careers and can perform to their true potential.
I heard someone say once; “if you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours” and that’s me, it’s the way I am. People describe me as calm, rational, motivated, determined and highly trusted. I am an authentic listener, and my role as a project manager and consultant has always been to guide others to success.
I was born in Stratford upon Avon, England, where I grew up and lived until heading off to university. And wherever I travel in the world, everyone knows where I’m from, so it’s always a good talking point; such a small town yet so famous. My career started in marketing and advertising, something I loved and that brought out the creative side in me. From there, I started working more for technology customers which moved me steadily into the IT industry, an area which fascinated me. During the dot-com bubble, I made a move to work in IT and telecoms, and this is where I started my career in project management; working, then leading large projects for multinational organizations around the world.
Working for such companies travelling becomes a way of life, and today I have much of my business in Germany and Europe and live with my family in Matadepera, close to Barcelona, Spain. My family forms the bedrock of my life; I am very happily married and have a son who is currently studying in the USA. I encouraged him to spread his wings and explore the world; he is doing just that, and I am very proud of him.
I have many hobbies and interests: I have a passion for graphic design, and I collaborate with a marketing and design agency called Brandall; I have taken on several acting roles and have appeared on national TV. Sports include tennis and more recently, field hockey and leisure time is taken up exploring my surroundings, or just walking my dogs in the local countryside. Looking ahead, my wife and I plan to take-up sailing as we both love the sea, and next year I will write my first book.
So the pillars of my life, are my family, home environment, lifestyle, work and hobbies probably in that order, and I am happy with that.
“Most of us spend too much time on what is urgent and not enough time on what is important.”
Stephen R Covey
